CPT Coding Programs

Revenue Management Education, a division of Integrated Revenue Management, Inc., offers comprehensive coding education dedicated to enhancing clinical and coding knowledge for physicians and coders and providing the tools and skill sets required by today's complex healthcare industry.

Education Venues

Online

Revenue Management Education (RME) delivers innovative online education to healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of healthcare organizations. Our flexible and unique learning courses are designed to improve competency and build upon basic skill sets.

RME's e-learning center hosts comprehensive courses, with quizzes throughout each course, aimed at improving knowledge and skill while preparing for the future. Our online education courses leverage the e-learning experience and enable the user to take courses anytime and anywhere. An online help desk is available for questions relating to educational needs.

Onsite

As an alternative, IRM also offers an onsite program, which results in measurable declines in inaccurate or inappropriate ICD and CPT code assignment. IRM's approach is to educate and develop internal resources to meet the quality standards of HHS. Our coding programs include comprehensive education and coaching in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease pathology, coding guidelines, and correct code assignment. They also include various critical thinking case studies to test and challenge the coder's ability to select the accurate code assignment.

CPT Coding Program

Program Objectives

Applying codes from the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system to the hospital setting is a challenging and complex process. Because the coding system was developed by physicians for physician use, interpreting the guidelines for application in the hospital can be very confusing. Revenue Management Education (RME), a division of IRM, offers comprehensive CPT Coding Education, an in-depth and easy-to-understand program geared toward the hospital coder.

Complete with guidelines set forth by the American Medical Association (AMA) and other regulatory agencies such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), this program is designed for coders at any level who are involved in both the hard-coding and soft-coding process.

The program covers all aspects of surgical CPT coding and interventional radiology. Each course includes quizzes, key terminology, and common acronyms to maximize the learning experience.

Program Benefits

  • Describe common procedures reported with CPT codes
  • Describe uses for Level II HCPCS codes
  • Describe the HCPCS coding system and when to use Level I versus Level II codes
  • Explain when to use CPT and HCPCS modifiers and which are appropriate in the hospital setting
  • Discuss the process of looking up codes in the CPT codebook
  • Describe basic anatomy for the major body systems addressed in CPT

Who Will Benefit

  • Prospective coders
  • Coders responsible for CPT coding
  • Chargemaster staff
  • Other hospital staff members who would benefit from the understanding of coding CPT procedures

ICD-9-CM Coding Program

Program Objectives

ICD-10-CM is on the horizon, and both a greater knowledge of clinical documentation and a greater proficiency for accurate reimbursement will be required of coders. ICD-10 is the anticipated clinical modification of the World Health Organization's International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision. ICD-10 far exceeds its predecessors in the number of concepts and codes provided. The disease classification has been expanded to include health-related conditions and to provide greater specificity.

RME's ICD-9-CM Coding Program is designed to fill the coder education gap in preparation for ICD-10 implementation, as well as to provide education that is currently applicable to the use of ICD-9-CM. Our extensive education combines anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and disease process information with coding guidelines developed by the Cooperating Parties and official references such as Coding Clinic. Our courses also include the effects of code assignment and clinical documentation on MS-DRG reimbursement. No other education on the market today serves as comprehensively to prepare trainees for ICD-10 and enhance their ICD-9-CM coding skills.

Program Benefits

  • List the three volumes of ICD-9-CM
  • List the agencies that make up the Cooperating Parties and describe their purpose
  • Describe the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
  • Describe system-related anatomy
  • Discuss various disease processes
  • List DRGs on the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) list of target DRGs and describe common coding errors associated with each
  • Describe to medical staff documentation requirements for specific conditions

Who Will Benefit

  • Prospective coders
  • Coders responsible for inpatient or outpatient ICD-9-CM coding
  • Other hospital staff members who would benefit from the understanding of coding of ICD-9-CM procedures
